The problem is not really the pig farming, it is the feces of the pigs. Currently pigs are kept in a big barn and when they start to produce fecal matter
the waste flows to a lake or a tank which is used for farming and maturing of the soil on the farm, but lakes absorb things like water, so the same things
happen with the pig waste and pollute the area around, like the Illinois River. Or the rain goes on the farms pushing the waste and all other things in to
rivers or banks of rivers or towns. Pig wastes kills wildlife, is dangerous to human life, and it is pretty toxic. It emits ammonia, hydrogen sulfide, and
nitrate that is bad for the human body, rivers, and wildlife around these facilities. These pig farms also waste a lot of water. Fresh clean Water is a
precious thing and
the pigs drink a lot of it, specifically 875,562,000 gallons per year. Pig farms contribute to air pollution because hydrogen sulfide and endotoxins are
produced by pig farms and pollute our air. Pig farms also disturb the residents that live around them. Respiratory problems, anxiety, depression,
sleep disturbances, blue baby syndrome, disruption of thyroid function, bladder cancer and many more health issues have been shown in research to
affect residents who live by these farms. Because of the ill keeping of these farms, it leads to the destruction of the pigs.
